We were told by a few people at Bitter Springs that Edith Falls was beautiful and well worth stopping at on the way up to Kakadu, so after a relaxed pack up we headed off towards the falls. On the way there, we drove through Katherine, and stopped as we entered to get a photo of Kat in front of the sign, after a small modification to correct the spelling error that the town obviously made! We grabbed a few groceries before heading on to Edith Falls. The campground was awesome, set up the way they should be. The campsites were really well spaced, hidden amongst the trees, with big grassy areas behind each site. We unpacked and after a bit of food to give us energy, we set off on the short but steep walk to get up to the falls. They really were beautiful, with a large waterfall plunging into an inviting swimming hole below. We got changed and hit the water, keen to cool off after the hot walk up. We swam over to the falls, and tried to get as close as we could to them, but the force of the water kept pushing us back no matter how hard we tried. The water was cool but really refreshing given it was 30 degrees outside. After floating down a fast flowing chute in the rocks, we climbed out and headed up and over the rock face which gave us a great view above the falls, allowing us to see the pools that fed the waterfall. It was a magical site, and we could have sat there for hours watching the moving picture in front of us, but our stomachs had other ideas so we headed back to camp to have dinner.
The next morning, while Stu packed up the trailer, Kat & Em wandered around to the lower swimming area below another set of falls, but they decided that we definitely chose the right place to swim the day before as it was much more spectacular. Soon it was time to head off towards Kakadu, which was very high on the list for the kids, and they were especially excited to see a crocodile.
