Indee Station, WA – a quick stopover

The drive today took us through Port Hedland where we planned to stay the night in order to break up the drive to Karijini. It was a seriously uninspiring place with the mining industry visible everywhere we looked. Accommodation options were pretty limited, but we finally tracked somewhere down. It was miner accomodation with a tiny patch out the back for campers. After checking in, we drove to the camping section only to discover that our site was covered in tie down hooks that were bolted to the ground (being in the cyclone zone, all demountable accomodation had to be tied to the ground by law). Not being able to put our soft floor camper on that we went back to the office and got a refund before looking for an alternative. We decided to push on another hour to Indee Station, a remote station on the way to Karijini, which we figured would be much better than Port Hedland. Kat did some shopping in South Hedland and we drove around a bit looking for water to fill the tanks. After stopping at a train crossing to watch a 129 carriage mining train pass by, we eventually we found some water and once the tanks were full we were happy to get out of there.

We arrived quite late to the station, and although there were a few things to explore, by the time we set up it was time to get dinner sorted for the kids. There were also lots of mosquitos around so after feeding the kids dinner we bundled them off to bed, with us following not long after.
